PARAMETRIC [interior] FACADE

Fall 2014 - Computational Practice

[A collaborative project between myself and one other student]

Developed through a series of scripts, this partial column is one of several which act as the structural support for an Agricultural Learning High Rise tower in Uptown, Charlotte. Part of a group exploration, my role was in the detailing of the final structural system as well as the creation and assemblage of the above 1"=1' scaled model.

Grasshopper and Rhino were used to generate the form and the laser cut files, Stacked MDF was glued, vacuum sealed, and CNC routed to form the rings. Half-inch dowels were cut and used as the vertical connection elements which follow the angled geometries of the overall column. These dowels were joined by 3D printed connector pieces. The column was then wrapped in the floor plates which are a two way structural system and topped with the floor finish.
