CULTURAL ACADEMY
Fall 2014 - 4th Year Topical Studio
The Greensboro Cultural Academy, a K-5 Charter School in Greensboro, NC., seeks to educate students about other cultures through traditional and non traditional classroom settings with the integration of visual and performance arts into the learning system.
Based off of site axes the program is divided into two bars, hinged off one another to embrace the northern edge of the site where I have developed a public plaza. Between the two bars are interstitial spaces that act as break out areas for collaboration and creation between the grade levels.
Through cultural awareness programs, and open air spaces the design seeks to create a connection to the site and local context through the development of a public plaza, wide sidewalks, passive and active play areas, street side parking, and a community garden along the greenway running and fitness trail at the southern edge of the site.
